On the hybrid activities of Eastern power and their domestic actors

On November 26 and 27, 2025, the co-authors of the book Who Plays Russian Roulette with Slovakia, published by the Bratislava-based Mamaš publishing house, Patrik Haburaj and Grigorij Mesežnikov (editor of the publication), discussed the Kremlin's aggressive foreign and military policy in the world and the hybrid activities of the Russian state in Central Europe, including Slovakia, with citizens of Kežmarok and Bardejov.

In Kežmarok, the event took place in the Alter Ego bookstore, and in Bardejov, in the Libresso Löwy cafe (in both cases, in full halls). In Kežmarok, the discussion was moderated by Zdeno Suchý with the assistance of Zuzana Suchá, and in Bardejov, it was led by Ján Pecuch.

The co-authors of the book pointed out the worrying dynamism in the normalization of relations between Slovakia and the Russian Federation, especially in the context of Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine, the killing of civilians as a result of bombing and shelling of cities throughout the territory of the entire Ukrainian state, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure. They expressed their concerns that in such a situation, statements by leading Slovak public figures and representatives of the government coalition appear, de facto praising the Russian regime, calling for the defeat of Ukraine and the victory of the aggressor in the expectation of benefits from the renewal of cooperation with the Kremlin.

Grigorij Mesežnikov characterized the state of that part of the Slovak ideological and political spectrum, whose representatives are engaged in promoting foreign (in this case, Russian) authoritarian influence in their own country. Patrik Haburaj focused on the analysis of the actions of actors of Russian influence on social networks, describing the methods of receiving and delivering Russian propaganda content to Slovak recipients.

During the lively discussion, the speakers answered numerous questions from the audience.
