Should we discuss with extremists?

On October 28, 2025, IVO president Grigorij Mesežnikov participated in the discussion event with Beata Balogová, the chief commentator of the daily Sme, and Šimon Žďárský, podcaster, on the topic Schould we discuss with extremists? The event was organized by the European Democracy Youth Network (EDYN) and was moderated by Aurel Surový, a representative of the mentioned organization.

The discussants focused on defining extremism as a political and opinion stream and a type of behavior. They pointed out the danger of extremist politics penetrating the mainstream, normalizing anti-system proposals that undermine the cohesion of society, violate the principle of equality of citizens, and spread hatred and violence.

Discussions should be held with those citizens who are capable of rational thinking and are open to critical arguments; representatives of organized extremism should be politically isolated and treated as those who deliberately weaken or directly destroy the democratic system.
