Two years of political freedom – re-edition

A remarkable publishing project was carried out at the turn of 2022-2023 by the Institute for Public Affairs (IVO). Thanks to the support of the SPP Foundation, a re-edition of the two publications Dva roky Yolitickej slobody a  Dva roky politickej slobody – ex post [Two Years of Political Freedom and Two Years of Political Freedom – Ex post], published in 1992 and 1993 by the RaPaMaN Foundation, combined into one volume, is being published these days. The co-authors of the publication are Ľuboš Kubín, Marián Velšic, Róbert Daňo, Bohumil Juhás, Daniel Balko and Igor Stupňan, then students of the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava.

The re-edition is an authentic testimony of the development of political freedom in post-November Slovakia and Czechoslovakia. It focuses on portraying the key issues that society faced with shortly after the regime change and the restoration of democracy. Monitoring of political events from June 1990 to May 1992 and their analysis convey a dynamic and often conflicting sequence of steps in both parts of the joint Czech-Slovak state, their background, the behavior of individual actors, the turbulently changing distribution of political forces, negotiations on the future form of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic and finally the development after the second free elections, which inevitably led to the creation of two separate states.
