On December 2, 2020, Grigorij Mesežnikov spoke at the Košice Economic Forum with a presentation 30 years of liberal democracy in Slovakia: contexts, results, challenges. In his speech and the following discussion, he focused on the process of institutionalization and consolidation of democracy in the Slovak Republic, its key actors, factors that helped the success of the process or complicated it. He pointed out the link between the consolidation of democracy and the country's participation in European integration. He touched on the most pressing challenges for liberal democracy in Slovakia – authoritarian tendencies represented by domestic populist forces, political extremism, widespread corruption and hybrid infiltration from the outside.
