„Authoritarian shadows. Malign influence in the European Parliament“

On September 3, 2020, the Budapest-based think-tank Political Capital, in cooperation with its partners, including the Institute for Public Affairs (IVO), is organizing an online discussion Authoritarian Shadows. Malign Influence in the European Parliament, with the presentation of the research findings of the international project supported by the National Endowment for Democracy.

Political Capital has done pioneering research on malign foreign influence and interference in the EP, with particular attention on Central Europe. PC and its research partners have been tracking the votes cast by MEPs, and their statements in parliamentary debates to map authoritarian influence in European institutions. Political Capital prepared a rating of MEPs based on their votes and formulated policy recommendations that could help European policy-makers, NGO-s, media, experts and academic institutions to raise awareness and counter malign forms of influence. On the event, experts introduce their study and then discuss with MEPs patterns of authoritarian influence in the European Union.
