About radical views among teachers

On April 16, 2019, a press conference was held in Bratislava with a panel discussion where the results of the research “Extremism among teachers“ were presented.

The event, organized by the CEEV Živica civic association, was attended by Martin Slosiarik, director of FOCUS agency, Juraj Hipš from CEEV Živica / Comenius Institute, Grigorij Mesežnikov, president of the Institute for Public Affairs and Gabriela Herényiov8, a school psychologist from Comenius University. Discussion was moderated by Magdalena Koreny from SKPR STRATEGIES.

The survey devoted to the spread of radical views among secondary school teachers in Slovakia, was based on the methodology of the DEREX project (Demand on Right Wing Extremism).

The participants of the discussion analyzed the factors that contribute to the formation and survival of extremist moods among different groups of Slovakia’s population. They pointed out that among Slovak teachers, the degree of inclination towards radical and nationalist attitudes is lower than on average for the population. They emphasized the important role of teachers in shaping the value and opinion backgrounds of young people towards the preference of civic principles.
