Conference on Europe, democracy and extremism

On October 6, 2017, Grigorij Mesežnikov attended a conference European Union between Democracy and Political Extremism organized by the Institute of European Democrats in Košice in cooperation with the youth organization „Young Europeans“ with support of the European Parliament. 

 

IVO president discussed in the panel The Rise of Political Extremism in a Political, Sociological and Historical Perspective together with sociologist Michal Vašečka and historian Jakub Drábik. The discussion was moderated by Alena Bašistová, university teacher and deputy of the National Council of the SR. In his introductory contribution, G. Mesežnikov pointed out selected aspects of activities of the far-right representatives in Slovakia, especially factors of their political support related to the overall social atmosphere during the transition to democracy.
