Education in Informatics as it is Seen by Graduates of Primary and Secondary Schools

Objective: The project is focused on the reflection of the current problems in education in informatics at elementary and secondary schools. Its goal is to show, on the basis of representative research data, how young people are evaluating their information literacy and what experience they have with its practical application. The project shows to policymakers, experts and competent institutions what are the biggest mistakes and shortcomings in current IT education as they are seen by the generation that is just entering the labor market.

The representative survey was conducted by IVO in cooperation with FOCUS polling agency in February 2017 on a sample of 1,061 respondents of the age of 18 – 26 years.

The basic research questions/issues inter alia included:

  • Where young people acquire the key knowledge of the work with ICT
  • What is the level of their achieved computer skills
  • Assessment of school preparation for ICT use in practice
  • What lacks in education in informatics of young people and what are the reasons of it
  • What are the requirements of practice on the computer skills of young people?
  • What strategies young people choose to improve their computer skills
  • Interest in the study of informatics and the reasons of lack of its attractiveness
