Escaping the Escape – Europe and the Refugee Crisis

On 24 April, 2017, a panel discussion titled “Escaping the Escape – Europe and the Refugee Crisis” took place in Open Gallery, Open Society Foundation, Bratislava. Discussion about was opened by Grigorij Mesežnikov (president of IVO), Gabriele Schöler (Bertelsmann Foundation). Expert on migration Christian-Peter Hanelt presented the basic data on migration, focusing on 2015 when more than a million of refugees and migrants arrived in Europe.

Participants of the panel discussion included Mariam Safi, Afghanistan, Founding Director of the Organization for Policy Research and Development Studies (DROPS); Dane Taleski, Macedonia, Professor at the University of South East Europe in Tetovo/Skopje; Zakariya El Zaidy, Libya, Project Associate of the Danish Refugee Committee in Libya and J. Shola Omotola, Professor of Political Science at the Oye Ekiti Federal University in Nigeria.

On the occasion of this event, guests from Germany also introduced the new book publication of the Bertlesmann Foundation Escaping the Escape – Toward solutions for the humanitarian migration crisis.
