Martin Bútora, IVO honorary president and former Slovakia’s ambassador to USA (1999-2003) summarizes the atmosphere of pre-election campaign and some features of the battle, especially importance of media, voting strategies of some groups of the population, importance of independent voters. He also analyzes different segments of voters and their probable preferences. In this context he refers to some examples from the previous campaigns. He also underlines the fact that this year, Americans were more focused on the candidates themselves than on their political visions.
