The participants of seminar organized by Taipei Representative Office in cooperation with Institute for Public Affairs (IVO) and Slovak Foreign Policy Association (SFPA) in Bratislava, discussed position of Taiwan (Republic of China) in world politics and the prospects for Slovak-Taiwanese relations.

The workshop was attended by foreign policy and economic experts, journalists, diplomats and deputies of Slovak parliament.

The introduction to the seminar was made by David Nan-Yang Lee, Head of Taipei Representative Office, which approached the basic assumptions of the current foreign policy lines of the Taiwanese government, which consists of a pragmatic, particularly economic, cooperation with China, maintaining the status quo in relations between China and Taiwan with regard to issues of  international-legal subjectivity, in an attempt to obtain adequate representation of Taiwan in relevant international organizations, and  in strengthening trade relations with numerous countries, including EU member states.

Chairman of Committee on European Affairs of National Council of Slovak Republic and leader of parliamentary group of Slovak-Taiwanese Friendship, Ivan Štefanec spoke in his contribution about the prospects of economic cooperation between Slovakia and Taiwan, he mentioned the xamples of major Taiwanese investment into the Slovak economy.

Marek Csabay from University of Economics pointed to various contexts and factors of economic relations between EU and Taiwan. The seminar was moderated by Grigorij Mesežnikov, president of the Institute for Public Affairs (IVO).
