Objective: Research project Digital Literacy in Slovakia maps one of the key pre-requisites of a successful transformation to an information-based society and knowledge-based economy – preparedness of broad strata of the population to use modern information and communication technologies (ICT).
The research is carried out by means of a representative survey on a sample of 1138 respondents, age of 14+, which allows for generalization of the findings on population of the Slovak Republic, based on primary socio-demographical characteristics (gender, age, education, size of community and region). Fieldwork data collection was run by the FOCUS agency in June 2011 through the network of trained interviewers using the method of standardized face-to-face interviews.
The fourth volume of analytical monitoring project offers the answers to the following questions: what is the ratio of the digitally literate and the digitally illiterate in the society and how has it changed in the recent period; what experience have these individuals acquired and what level of ICT proficiency have they achieved; what are the learning and adaptation capabilities across various social groups and environments; what affects the overall level of digital literacy; how is the digital literacy changed across the regions of Slovakia; which groups are on the edge of the “digital gap”.
