IVO representatives visited the Ukrainian Embassy in the Slovak Republic

The IVO representatives Mr. Grigorij Mesežnikov and Ms. Oľga Gyárfášová visited the Ukrainian Embassy and presented the newly published book to her Excellency Ukrainian Ambassador to Slovakia Mrs. Inna Ohnivec. The publication On the road to Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. Slovak –Ukrainian dialog between the neighbors  is in Ukrainian language and describes the Slovak experiences from integration process and first years of membership in EU and NATO. The book is addressed to journalists, non-governmental organizations and also for public. Even though the Euro-Atlantic integration is the priority of foreign and security policy of Ukraine, the part of public is still not sufficiently informed and is subjected to unreal myths.

The Slovak-Ukrainian neighbors dialog about integration is the outcome of cooperation among Institute for Public Affairs (Oľga Gyárfášová), Research Centre of SFPA (Alexander Duleba and Ivo Samson) and Centre for European and North-Atlantic relations (Róbert Ondrejcsák) at the Slovak side and for the Ukrainian side Kiev Centre for peace, conversion and foreign policy (Alexander Sushko) and Odessa University (Denis Kuzmin). The dialog is taking place not only at the pages of the book but also throughout the series of round tables, seminars and lectures of Slovak experts in Ukrainian regions.

In the years 2006-2008 IVO experts conducted series of seminars and public talks in Kiev, Donetsk, Odessa, Simferopol, Dnepropetrovsk focused on the issue of Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. In the situation which arose as a consequence of invasion of Russia to Georgia, the Institute considers as necessary to speed up the process of opening accession talks of Ukraine and supports the invitation of Ukraine to Membership Action Plan in December 2008.
