Unemployment and discrimination

On November 22, 2007 Institute for Public Affairs presented the findings of the project Identifying barriers to more effective application of anti-discrimination legislation in relation to unemployed persons.  The main objective was to identify barriers which obstruct the principle of equal opportunities and limit the unemployed, above all long term unemployed in access to labour market. The findings of a qualitative survey conducted in three localities of Slovakia (Rimavská Sobota, Gelnica, and Žilina) and discussion for a with target groups indicate that in our society there are wide spread prejudices and stereotyping of this group. At same time the project identified also stimuli that on the contrary could make the labour market access easier. The project has been conducted within the Year of Equal Opportunities for All – 2007.
