The Roma Before the 2002 Parliamentary Elections

Objective: To analyze several aspects of Roma political representation and participation. A quantitative sociological probe carried out through survey method served as the basis for the research. The respondents of the research included Roma in seven districts of Slovakia. The total number of surveys was 323. Aside from the issue of Roma political participation, the probe also focused on the value orientation of the Roma, the Roma political scene, the positions of the Slovak Roma toward European Union, their migration potential, and conflicts with the majority population.

 

Outputs:  


In October 2002, the Institute for Public Affairs published a work entitled Romany Voices. The Roma and Their Political Participation in the Period of Transformation, which was the result of an analysis of a sociological probe in conjunction with available information on Roma political representation and participation. The authors of the publication include Minorities Program analysts of the Institute for Public Affairs - Michal Vašečka, Martina Jurásková, Elena Kriglerová, Peter Puliš, Jana Rybová. The work has been published in the Slovak language only.
