Objective:
The project’s aim is to perform a complex mapping of all Roma communities in Slovakia; to review the existing data and to collect and fill in the information that is necessary for proposing effective development strategies in individual Roma communities in Slovakia .

The research is not focused on individuals within the Roma minority or individual households, but the Roma community/settlement as a whole. The aim of the project is to collect data, such as the size and the demographic structure of the Roma community, their location in a given territory and availability of basic infrastructure. Furthermore, the project maps the accessibility of education and employment to members of Roma community and to what extent they have a say in public affairs. One of the most important pieces of information that the project aims to provide is on projects that were carried out in particular districts and Roma communities, as well as information about the results which these projects have brought thus far, and are still bringing.

Outputs:

Database of information about Roma communities in Slovakia, to be administered by the Office of Plenipotentiary of the Government of the Slovak Republic for Roma Communities. The database is to serve as a source of information for state institutions, donors and organizations involved in carrying out or supporting projects in Roma communities.

A publication reporting the main findings and presenting an analysis of collected data is scheduled to come out in March 2004.
