Annotation
“Open Windows” has become the name of a project formerly titled “Brain Drain”. Both titles address the issue of emigration of Slovakia’s educated citizenry after 1989. When the Institute was founded in 1997 many IVO analysts shared a common interest in this topic. This interest has finally led to a project. A research report with elements of an essay has been formulated, based on the results of qualitative and quantitative sociological probe conducted in 1999. It has become a common practice for the Institute to find unique ways of presenting the results of its research findings. Thus, in order to make the problem of migration of young Slovaks more visible, a documentary film on Slovaks living in the Czech Republic has been produced within the “Open Windows” project to accompany the report.
