Annotation
Yet another output of the project called Promoting the Policy of Reforms in Slovakia jointly implemented by the IVO and the IRI, the publication analyzes the Slovak society following Slovakia’s EU and NATO accession from a number of aspects, describing the social context of the value conflict, interpreting the country’s full-fledged EU membership as a new challenge and discussing Slovakia’s newly emerging responsibilities. The authors focus on the sociological and political-science context of the conservative-liberal dispute and other domestic cultural discussions. They describe various challenges facing the Slovak society as a result of Slovakia’s EU membership, particularly philosophical, political and economic ones. Last but not least, they discuss various aspects of development aid, such as people’s preparedness for the change in Slovakia’s status from recipient to donor, a state development aid program and previous performance of two most active and best profiled non-governmental organizations operating in this field.
