Annotation
“Slovakia 1997. Global Report on the State of Society and Trends for the Year 1998” represents a third continuation of the yearbook monitoring the country’s development in the period of political and societal transformation. After the first two books published in cooperation with Sándor Márai Foundation, Institute for Public Affairs has assumed a full responsibility for present and future publications of this analytical yearbook. The Global Report is a inter-disciplinary and at the same time monothematic analytical publication that relies predominantly on hard data and qualitative studies supported by carefully researched information. This year the publication is divided into four thematic parts that have been selected based on a premise of a necessity to portray the country’s developments in 1997 in the basic spheres of the societal life, that is in domestic policy, foreign policy, economy and social issues. The publication also offers a comprehensive Chronicle of events in the year of 1997. Similarly to other publications of Institute for Public Affairs, it came into being as a result of a team work of dozens of experts – including both internal employees of the Institute, as well as external collaborators from a wide range of institutions, including university departments, academic institutions, independent research centers, media, non-governmental organizations and civic associations. In comparison to the two previous publications of the Global Report, the book „Slovakia 1997“ is richer in content and introduces a new structure.
The book is sold out. The full electronic version of the book is contained in Slovakia 1996-2010 DVD.
