The book Civil society in Slovakia: Crises, crossroads, challenges is an outcome of experts and fellow workers from 3 Slovak NGOs - IVO, Partners for Democratic Changes Slovakia (PDCS) and Center for Philanthropy (CpF). In the second half of 2016, these organisations carried out a research project focused on evaluation of conditions, trends, needs and possibilities of development of civil society in Slovakia. The project was supported by the Ekopolis Foundation, in cooperation with the Children of Slovakia Foundation, Social Reform Foundation SOCIA and Open Society Foundation (OSF), through programs Active citizenship and inclusion and Democracy and human rights, which were supported by Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. Release of the book publication which summarised project’s main findings was supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
Project participants examined a variety of factors which affect development of civil society in Slovakia - general socio-political conditions, international and regional context, available sources of funding, public relationship, motivation of citizens to be engaged and more. They addressed also current challenges which civil society in Slovakia is facing and readiness of its actors to meet these challenges as opportunities for further development.
