Annotation
The publication is an output of the project called The Future of Enlarged NATO and the European Union from Political Players’ Perspective that was implemented by the Institute for Public Affairs and financially supported by the German Marshall Fund of the United States. It maps out opinions of Slovakia’s relevant political representatives regarding particular aspects of the country’s foreign policy in the context of NATO and EU integration. The principal source of information was a series of structured interviews the IVO conducted between January and May 2004 with 16 representatives of parliamentary political parties including members of parliament and cabinet. The interviews examined a broad spectrum of foreign policy issues, ranging from institutional organization of the EU through the future of transatlantic relations, Visegrad cooperation and Near East conflict. Besides authorized transcriptions of individual interviews, the book also features their qualitative analysis that focuses on particular issues of transatlantic relations, for instance the role of the EU in international relations, mutual relations within the NATO – EU – USA triangle, division of labour between NATO and the EU in the field of security and legitimacy of deploying military force.
