Institute for Public Affairs has completed the project Digital Slovakia – Research Data for Students, which was created in cooperation with the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava and with the financial support of the Tatra banka Foundation within the framework of the grant program Vedieť viac (Know more). The primary objective of the project is to provide students of Slovak universities and colleges professionally prepared and processed data from empirical research on development of "Information society" for their further use in seminar, bachelor, master or doctoral theses.
The project will enable students and PhD. students to gain access to representative empirical data about the basic attitudes of the population towards information and communication technologies (ICT), their adaptation to ICT, the use and access to ICT, the level and dynamics of digital literacy or the reflection of new trends in ICT Information society.
One incentive for this form of higher education is the demand for students for so-called source data that they could process, analyze and interpret themselves. "The problem is that such data often have a high commercial value or strategic importance, so the institutions that own them do not publish or offer them for sale, so access to real-world research data is so difficult for students," says the author of the project by Marián Velšic. The basic output of the project is an electronic data matrix, which is available on the Institute's website www.ivo.sk.
