Objective: The project intends to build the capacity of community leaders in the North-East Region in practical establishing and running democratic institutions on provincial and district level. Strengthening democratic structures in the provinces will at the same time help to ensure the authority of central government and efficiency of its institutions. In long-term the project may also strengthen the democratic political culture in Afghan society.
Study trips of young afghan NGO and local government activists in Slovakia are the base of whole project. We aim to make the representatives of Afghan intelligentsia familiar with functioning of some democratic institutions in Slovakia; to discuss the difficulties of democratization process in Afghanistan trying to make use of the Slovak experience; to identify together with Afghan partners the areas and topics for future possible training for specific groups of beneficiaries that may be conducted either in Slovakia or in Afghanistan.
International evaluating conference with the attendance of study trips participants and Slovak experts will be held in Kunduz at the end of a project.
Outputs:
Assessment trip to Afghanistan – April 25 – May 2, 2006. Meetings with local governments, Afghan NGOs, international organization based and media representatives in Kunduz and Takhar province; to get acquaint with the political and cultural background, people, habits and traditions.
First Group of Young Afghan Leaders in Slovakia – September 10 – September 20, 2006.
Second Group of Young Afgan Leaders in Slovakia - October 30 – November 8, 2006.
